• Unfortunately, federal relief programs have had a hard time getting off the ground. Read about it at the Washington Post and write to your reps. MAY 2009 UPDATE: The "Making Home Affordable" program has had some success in restructuring loans for borrowers who are behind on their mortgages. You can find out if you may be eligible for this program at www.makinghomeaffordable.gov. If you have a loan held by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, you may be eligible for a re-fi; if you have a loan through another lender, you may be eligible for a loan restructuring (extending the term or lowering the rate to reduce your payments).
